How to convert an hourly rate to a salary
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you are paid each year. A rate of £15 an hour for 37.5 hours a week over 52 weeks is £15 × 37.5 × 52 = £29,250 a year. To go the other way, divide your yearly salary by the number of hours you work in a year.
Monthly pay is simply the yearly figure divided by 12, so it is not the same as four weeks of pay. A month has a little over four weeks in it.
Paid holiday and unpaid weeks
Most UK workers get at least 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year, including bank holidays, and paid holiday counts as paid time. That is why 52 weeks is the usual figure. If you work through agency or zero-hours contracts and some weeks are unpaid, enter the number of weeks you expect to be paid instead.
Overtime and bonuses
This calculator uses your standard hours and standard rate. It does not include overtime, bonuses, commission or tips. Add those to your yearly figure separately if you want the full picture.
Pay before tax
The figures here are gross, meaning before Income Tax, National Insurance and any pension or student loan deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower. Our take-home pay calculator shows what you keep.
National minimum wage and National Living Wage
From 1 April 2026 the National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour for workers aged 21 and over. The rate is £10.85 for 18 to 20 year olds and £8.00 for under 18s and apprentices. The rates change each April. See GOV.UK: National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates for the current figures.
